Compost Clubhouse celebrates two years of saving the planet!
This month marks two years since Compost Clubhouse picked up our first bucket of compost. We are beyond grateful for the support of our subscribers and everyone in the communities we serve. Today we support 250 households, 14 schools, and have diverted more than 50 tons from Central Ohio landfills. Like all organizations, the pandemic created unprecedented challenges for our team. However, through the ongoing efforts of our inspiring and resilient youth team, we are proud to be doing this meaningful and empowering work and look forward to more growth in 2022. Thank you!
Earth Day Giveaway
On Earth Day 2021, Compost Clubhouse hosted a compost pick-up event. Grandview residents and subscribers were invited to bring a 5-gallon container and grab some compost at our contact-free drop-off station. Volunteers helped by filling up the attendees’ buckets and sending them on their way. Grandville saw some beautiful gardens bloom this spring!

Summit Chase Launch
Summit Chase residents are able to drop off their Compost Clubhouse buckets to be picked up on Thursday mornings. We are also excited to have Sophie Chapman, a student at the St. Andrews School in Upper Arlington, as the youth captain for Summit Chase! Sophie and her father had been collecting food waste and bringing it to our Compost Clubhouse drop-off station for almost a year before this launch. They are thrilled to see this program working for their family as well as Summit Chase residents!
Our SWACO Visit
Members of our Compost Clubhouse youth team visited the Franklin County landfill (SWACO) on August 10th and August 17th. Our students shown here, ages 5-18, are from schools in Dublin, Grandview, Hillard, New Albany, Reynoldsburg, Upper Arlington, Westerville, and Worthington. It’s a remarkable experience to see a landfill firsthand and it most certainly shifts how kids think about waste, no matter how they view sustainability. These are important trips as each student leaves with the mission of sharing something they learned with at least one other person. This is what we are all about: youth leaders promoting a more sustainable future! Please let us know if your kids are interested in joining us on our next visit!
We are pleased to feature Emersen White, a 9th grade student at CSG and Compost Clubhouse youth ambassador, responsible for launching a composting program for Park’s Edge residents in downtown Columbus! Emersen is a strong leader at Compost Clubhouse and joined our team on day one. In the past two years, Emersen has presented to City Council meetings, visited the landfill at SWACO, and volunteered at countless events around central Ohio.
Looking Ahead
We are currently looking for more Youth Leaders! Being one is great for students interested in initiating community events to educate about and help with composting, and it’s a great opportunity to earn service hours for your school! An easy way to get started is hosting a “Lemonade and Learn” in your neighborhood. This is an event for local residents to gather and enjoy a glass of lemonade while learning about all the benefits composting offers. Plus, Compost Clubhouse provides all the decorations and materials to get you started. If you are in high school or are the parent of a child who might be interested in becoming a Youth Leader, please reach out to us to join the Compost Clubhouse youth team.
