We are continuing our normal curbside pickup service during the COVID-19 pandemic. Pickup of food waste is essential and we are happy to serve you. We are seeing a 30-40% increase of food scraps. Keep them coming and enjoy cooking at home! To protect our service provider, please sanitize your lid and bucket and ALWAYS tie off your compostable liner. Contact us with questions, comments or concerns. Thank you!
It’s easy! Sign up here. Your neighborhood Compost Clubhouse team will drop off a branded bucket, lid, rubber band, liner instructions and a compostable liner. Fill the bucket with compostable waste. Put your bucket on the curb once a week to be picked up. Our pickup partner will leave another liner in the bucket for you for the following week! Repeat. Read additional information here.
Kids are meeting new friends, educating about food waste and composting, recruiting curbside pickup subscribers, presenting the initiative to peers, neighbors, teachers, administrators and to their community at events. They are inspiring, motivating, and taking action to collect food waste in schools as members of sustainability and environmental clubs and green teams. They are mentoring and learning leadership, presentation and entrepreneurial skills. There are opportunities for kids to work on reports, capstone projects, social media, grant writing and to fulfill community service hours/projects as well. Contact us if you know of any presentation opportunities for Compost Clubhouse in your neighborhood or want to get your kid involved.
The service is only $20.00 a month.
Absolutely! Cardboard needs to be torn into small pieces. Fun fact: paper egg cartons are made of recycled paper already so you can’t recycle them BUT you can compost them! Or return to your favorite farmer to reuse.
Absolutely!
No worries! The bucket does not have to be full for us to pick it up! The idea is to keep anything that can be composted out of the landfill, even if it’s just table scraps or banana peels.
You will receive an automatic welcome email when you sign up. This will confirm your pickup day but the liner note found in your bucket, when delivered, will indicate your specific confirmed day. Please put your bucket out by 7 a.m. or the night before with your lid secured. Contact us if you have any questions about this.
You shouldn’t have a problem. First, make sure you keep your bucket clean using soap and water. Further, you could sprinkle some soil and/or place newspaper under the lid. Consider holding particularly aromatic items in the fridge or freezer until you put your bucket out. Ensure that your lid is properly secured. Watch this video for proper closure technique for your lid.
Your food scraps and other compostable waste go to two facilities that process them into compost or “black gold.” It is sold to commercial, wholesale and retail markets. We are not selling it yet! We hope to make it available in the future.
Thank you for asking! Check out Other Ways to Support. You can make a contribution to the initiative, sponsor a membership, and encourage and recruit others to participate. Contact us for additional information.
